Organizational Background and History
The Justice, Development and Peace Commission is a faith based and non-profit organization of the Catholic Church, established as its social organ promoting the social teachings of the Catholic Church.
The Justice, Development and Peace Commission of Abuja Archdiocese (JDPC Abuja) was established in 1994.
The commission represents the ministry of service of the Church, aimed at augmenting the spiritual aspects of the Church's duties, with an orientation towards excellent social service. Over time, the Church adopted Justice and Peace as the main objectives of her intervention, in the non-spiritual aspects of the lives of her members.
JDPC became the option and the thrust, promoting human development, through holistic approaches, focusing on education and conscientization of the people, who are the central focus of development.
JDPC Abuja’s strategic priorities are geared towards the protection of human rights and the promotion of justice and equity as catalysts for peace and integral human development.
Our key thematic areas are drawn from these strategic priorities. Our thematic areas of implementation are;
Human Rights Protection, Prison Welfare Services, Human Development, Democracy Monitoring, Civic Education, Community Development, Peace Building and Conflict Resolution/Caritas, Health, Environmental Protection and Agricultural Development.
JDPC Abuja’s operations are guided by its Vision, Mission and Values. Our values are based on the Catholic Social Teachings which promote the basic principles of stewardship, option for the poor, protection of the human life, equality and the common good.
